Named for the Fins, Known for the Run
The Blacktip Shark gets its name from the dark tips marking its dorsal, pectoral, and tail fins, the field mark anglers use to call it before it ever clears the water. Florida's blacktips move in large schools along the coast, most visibly during the winter migration that stacks them close to shore, and a hooked fish is known for jumping and spinning on the way to the boat, the same behavior that gets it confused with its close relative.
Cast From the Real Fish
Every Blacktip Shark replica starts as a casting pulled from a first-generation mold taken off an actual fish, which is what carries the body taper, fin shape, and skin texture into the fiberglass instead of approximating them. Greg Cassell hand-sculpts the mouth and teeth and sets each glass eye by hand in sculpting epoxy after painting the iris to match your photo.
A Fiberglass Reproduction Outlasts a Shark Skin Mount
Unlike traditional shark taxidermy, a fiberglass reproduction holds its color permanently instead of fading or drying out the way mounted shark skin does over time, since the tough, denticle-covered hide that makes a live shark hard to handle is also difficult to preserve once it is off the fish. Greg builds the color in multiple automotive-grade airbrush stages, then seals the whole mount under a UV-resistant urethane clear coat, the same class of finish used on a show car.
No Shark Required
You do not need to keep your Blacktip Shark to get a mount. Upload a clear photo of your catch through the photo upload link, release the fish, and Greg builds the replica from your picture and your length.
Photo Matching and Paint Approval, Included
Photo matching costs nothing extra. Greg works from your uploaded photo to match coloration, fin condition, and any markings specific to your fish. No photo, no problem. Before the clear coat goes on, we email high-resolution photos of the finished paintwork for your approval.
Shipping and Final Invoicing
Shipping is invoiced separately once your mount is crated and exact dimensions are confirmed. Every mount is built to order in the USA and ships nationwide by UPS Ground, with larger mounts traveling in custom-built wooden crates.
Select Your Mount Type and Length
Use the dropdown menus above to choose your Mount Type and Length. Blacktip Shark molds run 17 to 94 inches. This species is available as a Full Wall Mount or a 360° Mount, not a Half Wall Mount. Full Wall Mount is the two-sided wall build at $17 per inch, starting at $289 for a 17 inch fish, with both sides painted and a heavy-duty metal hanging bracket. 360° Mount, also called a suspension mount or 3D mount, is the full reproduction at $20 per inch, starting at $340. It hangs from a ceiling on included suspension hardware, sits flat on a table, mantle, or shelf, and works as the base for a pedestal build. Driftwood and pedestal versions are available as an upgrade from either base mount, contact for pricing.
